RECRUITING: Hoops target William Jeffress expected to commit soon

Jerry Stackhouse and company are hungry for highly talented recruits this offseason after a tough growing pain season going 3-15 in conference play. It’s obvious Stackhouse and his staff are ready to bring the Magic back to Memorial Gymnasium as the Commodores are in the top lists of 2020 prospects SG Kerwin Walton and C Dylan Cardwell. After landing 4-star Tyrin Lawrence, Stackhouse has gained some much-needed recruiting momentum. This would be huge for the Commodores to land any of these 3 highly recruited players after lacking depth off the bench last season. Foul trouble and a lack of healthy bodies hurt the Commodores late in most games as the 2020 campaign came to a close.

We now focus on this very interesting 2020 prospect which is a very talented William Jeffress. The 6’7 PF has cut his list down to 10 schools which includes the Commodores. Vanderbilt is interestingly the only SEC school in his top list.

Jeffress has played 3 seasons at McDowell High School (Erie, PA) and averaged 22.6 PPG over his 3 seasons according to Max Preps. Jeffress ranks 8th by position and 2nd in his state for the 2020 class by ESPN. This would be a huge addition for Coach Stackhouse and his staff with a relatively smaller roster. After departures from Matthew Moyer and Oton Jankovic, this leaves the Commodore frontcourt very slim for the foreseeable future especially if Clevon Brown is not granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA. Brown played in 9 games in his Senior season after suffering a season ending knee injury vs. Liberty in mid December.

William Jeffress, the Pennsylvania native, is again one of the most highly targeted prospect by Coach Stackhouse and company. Jeffress would provide great length, versatility, and rebounding ability from both ends of the court.

Also has the ability to finish through contact and draw fouls. He’s very physical and uses his big body to produce his production in the paint on both ends of the court. Commodore Nation, lets show him our support as Jeffress is expected to make his college decision in the next couple weeks and will not be trimming his list down any further.
