RECRUITING: Sugick And Russell Speak On Their Commitments To Vandy

Billy Derrick, the host of our podcasts here at The Dore Report, recently joined 2021 Vanderbilt commits Tank Sugick and Tyson Russell on Instagram live this past week.

It was exciting to hear from two talented athletes and see how they’re preparing for their upcoming Senior seasons while battling a global pandemic. Staying in shape and hitting the weight room is key over the next several months in order to prepare for their upcoming seasons.

Coach Mason snagged two diamonds in the rough with these guys and Sugick has high praise for the Commodores Coach.

“Coach Mason is a good dude. You know I like the whole staff. They keep it real with me. Like throughout my whole recruiting process, even though I committed to Virginia early, they still treated me like I was one of their top priorities.”

Sugick also had a message for instate rival Tennessee, who beat Vanderbilt last year and has picked up recruiting steam as of late.

“We beat them 3 years in a row. They got us last year but, I promise, when I get there, they’re not winning.”

Wow. That’s a bold statement from the defensive linemen out of Maryland. Keep in mind, the big man chose Vanderbilt over both Tennessee and Florida.

Now, lets move on to the speedy defensive back out of Florida, Tyson Russell. He has kept Vanderbilt at the top of his list throughout the entire recruiting process.

“When I first released my top 10 schools, Vanderbilt was at the top of my list. I mean when they showed a lot of interest in me and started recruiting me those were the reasons why I chose Vanderbilt. After talking with Coach Mason, he was just really great and that helped me make my final decision.”

Russell also said he has become a better player because of the reps he’s received in practice at St. Thomas Aquinas.

“Yeah I think just everyday in practice just being pushed by some of the tops guys in the country just helped me be the player I am today. Just a lot of competition at practice everyday and just knowing that at practice everyday there’s somebody behind you that’s just as good as you it’s just pushes you that much harder everyday.”

Those are some wise and intelligent words from two of the top players and leaders in this 2021 recruiting class for Coach Mason. Commodore Nation can’t wait to see Sugick and Russell on West End wearing the black and gold in the coming seasons.
