Three Vandyboys have been named 2020 Collegiate Baseball All-Americans. These nominees include IF Austin Martin (first team), RHP Mason Hickman (second team), and RHP Jack Leiter (freshman team). All three of these talented players had very impressive seasons even though it was unfortunately cut short. The 2020 campaign was an intriguing one for Coach Corbin and company as the Vandyboys registered a 13-5 record, going 11-1 at Hawkins Field before the COVID-19 outbreak. The only downfall was a 2-4 record away from the Hawk, with an underclassmen heavy team this was somewhat expected as the players were just getting their feet in the sand with the speed of the College game. We will now take a deeper and more in-depth look at the Vandyboys who were named All-Americans this past week.
Austin Martin (1st team)

The Jacksonville, Florida native registered a whopping .377 Batting AVG along side 3 HR, 11 RBI, 15 R, and 10 Walks. Martin led the Commodore lineup in most of these stats and was a huge contributor with the bat and also with glove at the hot corner. Martin was selected 5th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays in the MLB draft yesterday. Vanderbilt has now produced top 5 picks in the last two MLB drafts.
Austin Martin is one heck of a player and has had a marvelous 3 years for Coach Corbin and will be remembered as being able to play, quite literally, any position on the diamond.
Mason Hickman (2nd team)

The Hendersonville, Tennessee native served as the Ace and the Friday night starter for Coach Corbin during the 2020 campaign. Hickman was absolutely lights out maintaining a 0.48 ERA registering a 2-0 record with 18.2 IP and 26 SO in only 5 appearances. The 6’6 RHP is projected as a 3rd-5th round pick and will likely hear his name called Thursday evening during the MLB Draft. Hickman will most likely sign with the team he is drafted by and will leave the Vanderbilt program with a very impressive career for Coach Corbin under his belt. Mason Hickman has always been very consistent on the mound and has been very reliable as a weekend guy from the start for the Vandyboys.
As a note, in the 2017 MLB draft Hickman was selected in the 9th round, pick 265, by the Los Angeles Angels.
Jack Leiter (Freshman Team)

The Summit, N.J. native was one of the most impressive newcomers for Coach Corbin and staff this season. Leiter registered an impressive 2-0 record alongside 1.72 ERA, 15.2 IP, and 22 SO in only 4 appearances on the bump. The Freshman phenom will more than likely join the Weekend rotation next spring, joining standout Kumar Rocker. Leiter, as of now, is projected as a top 10 pick in the 2021 MLB draft next summer as he is a draft eligible Sophomore. Look for Leiter and Rocker to carry the Commodore pitching staff during the 2021 campaign. Jack Leiter will be a force for the Vandyboys next season and will look to have a breakout season.
We congratulate these three fellow Vandyboys on being named Collegiate baseball All-Americans.
