Game 7 Predictions: Florida

Dan Mullen, Heisman frontrunner Kyle Trask, and the rest of the talented Florida Gators offense roll into Nashville tomorrow. This Gator team has been, in one word, explosive.

Kyle Trask has been statistically on the same level as number 1 overall pick Joe Burrow was during his Heisman winning campaign in 2019. Vanderbilt’s struggling secondary has its work cut out for it against a Florida passing attack that is the best in the SEC.

Vanderbilt is a 31.5 point underdog with an over/under of 68 this week.

What a brutal matchup for Vanderbilt. Coming off a couple tight losses that have boosted the confidence of the struggling Commodores, this looks like it may end the streak of competitive games.

We all know the struggles this Vanderbilt secondary has had…. and thus far in 2020, Florida’s offense has caused many defensive coordinators to lose sleep. Florida has thrown 29 passing touchdowns this season. For context, Ole Miss is 2nd in the SEC with 23 (Ole Miss has played 7 games while Florida has played 6, and no other team has more than 17), and only 6 teams even have double digit passing touchdowns this season.

Vanderbilt has to fix their 1st quarter woes, still being outscored 66-3, just to keep this game from getting ugly. I expect Florida to move the ball with ease, just as they have against every opponent this season.

Florida has not scored less than 38 points this season, while Vanderbilt set a season high with 35 points last week against Kentucky. The defense will not be able to stop Florida, but Ken Seals and a quickly improving offense should find success against what has been an average Gator defense.

Even though this Florida defense has struggled, they still lead the SEC in sacks with 19, and expect max protection to be implemented to attempt to keep Ken Seals upright.

I see Florida jumping ahead early and never looking back. Florida has aspirations of playing in the College Football Playoff, and after a loss earlier this season to Texas A&M, there is no room for slip ups even in a win.

Vanderbilt is able to score some points but this one is never in doubt. Gators roll.

Kyle trask is just too much. Vandy’s defense has struggled all season and that won’t change against the Gators. Easy pick. I think Florida wins big and also covers the spread.

The stretch of competitive games was nice, but it’s back to reality this week.  If I had a Heisman vote, Kyle Trask would get it as he and the Gator offense are putting up ridiculous video game numbers every week.  It’s scary to think what happens when they go against a porous Commodore defense that has struggled all season to stop anyone.  Florida’s one flaw is their suspect defense, which may be what keeps them from making the playoff, but it won’t matter in this one.

Jackson Tolk

After an impressive offensive showing vs UK, the Commodores welcome the playoff contending Florida Gators to Nashville. Heisman candidate Kyle Trask has been on absolute fire, and although the Gators will be without All-American TE Kyle Pitts, I expect the Gators to have a big offensive showing against a Commodore defense that’s struggled to consistently stop anyone they’ve played this year. It’s a bad matchup for the Commodores.

The Gators come to Nashville coming off a very hot 5-1 start to the 2020 College Football season. The early 11 AM kickoff may favor the Commodores early in the game, but nothing major determining the result of the game. Florida is just simply way more talented and the better coached team. Gators roll into Vanderbilt stadium and cruise on offense resulting in a blowout win.

Jacob Scholl

This Florida team is as lethal as it gets. They have a solid passing attack behind Heisman candidate leader Kyle Trask. Since losing to Texas A&M this Florida offense is averaging nearly 50 points per game. While Vandy’s offense did make strides last game, Florida is just too well rounded of a team for the commodores to find much success this week. We are going to have to take the small victories this week and build towards our final game of the season against the Tennessee Vols. This one gets ugly early and stays ugly
